Signs of Being Abused
Are you in an abusive relationship? Know the signs.
Ask yourself these 20 questions
Have they:
- Called you names and/or criticised you.
- Tried to keep you from doing something you wanted to do.
- Prevented you from having money for your own use.
- Ended a discussion with you and made the decision themself.
- Threatened to hit or throw something at you.
- Pushed, grabbed, kicked or shoved you.
- Slapped, pinched or punched you.
- Put down your family and friends.
- Accused you of paying too much attention to someone or something else.
- Put you on an allowance.
- Used the children to threaten you.
- Became upset with you over the way you did household chores or with how you prepared dinner.
- Threatened to commit suicide.
- Made you do something humiliating or degrading.
- Checked up on you, listened to your phone calls, checked your mileage or called you repeatedly at work.
- Drove recklessly when you were in the car.
- Pressured you to have sex in any way you didn’t want or like.
- Refused to help with housework or childcare.
- Threatened you with a knife, gun or other weapon.
- Told you you were a bad parent.
- Stopped you or tried to stop you from going to work or school.
- Forced you to have sex.
- Cheated on you.
- Choked or strangled you.
- Threw, hit or smashed something.
