Afolake Awoyiga
Afolake lives in Hammonds Plains and is a clinical social worker with experience in community development and working with women and marginalized populations. She currently works at the IWK Health Centre and she is a part-time sessional instructor at the Dalhousie School of Social Work. Afolake is a co-founder of Generation 1 Leadership Initiative (G1LI).
I became a member of the Advisory Council on the Status of Women to advocate for the social and economic advancement of all Nova Scotian women.
I hope to provide insights into the intersecting realities of Black and immigrant women.
All issues that affect women are important; however, I am most interested in working with other council members on issues related to women's health, violence against women, childcare, housing, and strengthening women's economic security.
